Why are you holding an "Un-Holy Trinity Day" Event?

Exactly 65 years ago - July 16 - 1945, the US government exploded its first nuclear bomb - the "Trinity Test" in New Mexico. This marks the official start of the "Nuclear Age" - the beginning of the practice of the US federal government to use radiological materials on its own soil and in nations throughout the world. The organizers of this event object to the nuclear poisoning by the US of our land and people and that of other nations.

What is the UN-Holy Trinity of Horrors?

(1) nuclear bombs

(2) nuclear reactors

(3) conventional Uranium weapons (DU or Depleted Uranium)

What's the big deal about radiological pollution? Isn't radiation natural?

Since the 1940s, the US federal government has released - or allowed to be released - massive amounts of ionizing radiation in our air, water, and soil. Some of the radioactive chemicals such as Uranium and Tritium are found within the earth, but only in extremely minute quantities. Through the ages, humans and other living things were able to excrete miniscule quantities of radioactive substances - and thus, eliminate most of the ionizing radiation found in nature.

But right now, we've got a huge problem! Remember learning in Biology class how it takes many, many generations for genetic adaptations to take place in a changing environment? Well, right now, living things are unable to adapt so quickly to handling the massive amounts of manmade radiation and fission products (not found in nature) currently bombarding our environment. Thus, humans and all life forms are now greatly suffering!

How, exactly is this nuclear poisoning taking place?

In the 1940s, the federal government started production of the atomic bombs. They then exploded over 1,100 of these nuclear bombs both in the open air and underneath the ground, bombarding the environment with radionuclides that include fission products generated by the explosion of these bombs. In addition, the Department of Energy has been conducting "blasts" or explosions of radioactive chemicals above the ground at national weapons laboratory sites for into the seventh decade.

On top of the bombs and explosions, in the 1950's, the military also began exploding, firing, and burning radioactive munitions using Uranium out in the open air. Adding insult to injury (quite literally) nuclear submarines contributed their own poisons into the environment, such as the rampant nuclear contamination still found at the naval shipyard at Hunter's Point in San Francisco. Then, of course, there are both the radioactive chemicals and fission products generated by both the preparation of nuclear fuels and from nuclear reactors at both federal sites and commercial nuclear energy plants. These are just some of the ways our environment has been continuously polluted with ionizing radiation since the 1940s.

Admission to the Un-Holy Trinity Event is FREE. You may, however, wish to budget for parking and any expenses such as meals and accommodations, if you are traveling from a distance.
